Longtime pillars of Jewell's Main Street, Joan and Grant recently closed the doors to their beloved business, Gravy I Home Goods. Their dedication and contributions to the town's business district have earned them this prestigious honor.

"We are so thankful that our leap of faith turned out to be such a wonderful time on Main Street," shared Joan and Grant. "We bought the renovated building in 2013 from JADE, moved into the upstairs apartment in the fall, and opened Gravy that October. With encouragement and support from many in—and outside—the community, we have been fortunate enough to help Jewell's business district flourish and attract visitors and customers from all parts of Iowa. We look forward to watching Jewell thrive and revive in the coming years, and the new owner of our building plans to open a retail shop and live in the apartment just as we have—something that was important to us when we first considered selling our building."

The Fairchilds' commitment to Jewell extends beyond their successful business. They have been active participants in community events and strong advocates for the vitality of Main Street. Their decision to sell their building to someone who will continue the tradition of the storefront and upstairs living demonstrates their deep care for the town's future.

Looking ahead, Joan plans to keep the Gravy I Home Goods name and may occasionally participate in vintage markets and events around the state. She also looks forward to more time spent fishing. Grant will continue his woodworking pursuits. As they approach retirement, the couple plans to divide their time between their family farm near Pilot Mound and their home in southern Minnesota.
